From homelessness to c-suite with grit and laughter

At just 16, Claire found herself facing the world as a homeless mother with no qualifications to her name. Instead of letting life’s curveballs knock her down, she turned those challenges into a powerful vision: to become a highly sought-after executive.
A Twist of Fate
In her twenties, a serendipitous twist of fate landed Claire in a career as a Prison Officer. Talk about a challenging environment – she didn’t just survive; she thrived, developing skills that would catapult her to the role of Prison Governor in London by the age of 30. But that was just the beginning as she climbed the ranks to become Head of Operations for all Prisons and Probation in London, overseeing counterterrorism and anti-corruption too with a remit of nearly 9,000 staff, and juggling the lives of around 33,000 offenders. And, with while navigating a four-hour daily commute and caring for her baby.
A New Adventure Down Under
In 2011, Claire took her talents to Australia, headhunted to run a prison in South Australia. But she didn’t stop there… Shortly after, she became the Head of Justice Sector Reform for the State, fuelled by her insatiable appetite for change. Claire’s journey then took an exciting turn as she transitioned from government to the commercial sector. What started as a two-day consulting gig with NGO Guide Dogs turned into a full-blown role running Operations, paving the way for her extraordinary ascent into the C-Suite with listed company OZ Minerals, which was acquired by BHP for an impressive A$9.6bn catapulting her into the world largest mining company to become Vice President of Integration Performance.
